Byron Bay is a coastal town in the southeastern Australian state of New South Wales. It’s a popular holiday destination, known for its beaches, surfing and scuba diving sites.
Between June and November, humpback whales can be spotted from headland viewpoints such as the Captain Cook Lookout. Byron Bay has an eclectic mix of locals, almost untouched by ‘big city’ life, and offers the perfect getaway with the perfect weather.
For travellers and backpackers, visiting Byron Bay is almost a rite of passage, and well worth every second of your visit.
If you are visiting for the first time, there are some places that you should add to your bucket list to get the full Byron Bay experience.
RAE’S ON WATEGO BAY
A small seafood restaurant sits in a tiny beach bay and offers some of the freshest seafood in the perfect environment. If your budget will stretch, Rae’s is also a boutique hotel, and makes for the perfect place to stay outside of the main town.
SPELL AND THE GYPSY COLLECTIVE
This store pretty much embodies everything that Byron Bay is about, flowing gowns and bohemian fixtures make for a perfect photo opportunity.
THE ATLANTIC
This hotel sits a little out of the centre and is a great place to base yourself if you are visiting for a few days. Well priced rooms and a fantastic food selection make this one of my favourite destinations when in Byron.
